Employee Onboarding Checklist

🗓️ Pre-Onboarding (Before Day 1)

  •  Offer letter sent and signed
  •  Background check completed
  •  Employment contract signed
  •  Welcome email sent with Day 1 details
  •  IT equipment ordered (laptop, monitor, phone, etc.)
  •  Email and system accounts created
  •  Desk/workspace assigned (if applicable)
  •  Add to internal directories and org chart
  •  Assign onboarding buddy/mentor
  •  Send company handbook and policies

đź‘‹ Day 1: Welcome & Orientation

  •  Welcome meeting with HR
  •  Office tour / virtual environment walkthrough
  •  Introductions to team and key stakeholders
  •  Receive IT equipment and access credentials
  •  Overview of company culture, mission, values
  •  Review company policies (leave, code of conduct, etc.)
  •  Set up payroll, benefits, and tax forms
  •  Lunch with manager or team

🗓️ Week 1: Training & Integration

  •  Role-specific training begins
  •  Review job description and goals
  •  Introduce project management and communication tools (Slack, Trello, etc.)
  •  Schedule recurring check-ins with manager
  •  Join relevant meetings and shadow colleagues
  •  Complete compliance and safety training (if applicable)

đź“… Weeks 2–4: Engagement & Feedback

  •  Ongoing role-based training
  •  Introductory meetings with cross-functional teams
  •  First performance feedback session with manager
  •  Participate in team-building activities
  •  Begin contributing to projects
  •  Check-in with onboarding buddy
  •  Collect feedback on onboarding experience

âś… Month 1 and Beyond

  •  Set 30-, 60-, 90-day goals
  •  Conduct 30-day review with manager
  •  Complete all mandatory training
  •  Evaluate onboarding effectiveness (HR survey or feedback session)
  •  Offer opportunities for continuous learning
  •  Encourage participation in company communities or clubs
